Why choose local flowers?

Most flowers found in grocery stores and florists are imported in from other countries. These flowers are sprayed with chemical pesticides and preservatives, have a large carbon footprint, and have days to weeks in shipping. Most local growers, including us, do not use any chemicals in the process and flowers are in your hands the same day or the next day they are cut from the field. Since local flowers are not shipped, more fragile varieties, like sweet pea and cosmos, are available from local farms.

Imported flowers are typically grown in unsustainable practices, like using large amounts of plastic, chemical fertilizers, and monocropping which depletes soil life. Local flowers like ours are grown with minimal plastic throughout the process and use regenerative practices to increase soil quality while avoiding chemical runoff from fertilizers. Many local flower farms also invest in conservation practices like cover cropping in the off season to regain the natural ecosystem of the soil to make stronger plants.

About the owner

I’m Jenn and I live and grow in York, PA with the help of my husband Zack. I learned about cut flower growing while looking into redoing the front flower bed at our house and thought this is something I could really do if I set my mind to it. My favorite cut flowers are peonies, poppies, and dahlias, but I really love all of them. I admire how unique they all are, from their look to how they like to grow. Flowers bring so much happiness and I can’t wait to share that happiness with you. Check the “Our Story” tab to learn more about how Solstice Blooms Flower Farm came to be.
